The Great NY Climate Week 2024 Guide
Welcome to the Big Apple! We're here to help you meet people IRL, enjoy the sights and sounds of our beautiful city, and plan for the biggest climate event of the year 🗽
Welcome to the Big Apple for NY Climate Week 🍎
If you haven’t heard about it already, NY Climate Week is coming to town September 20th - 29th. New York has dozens of “weeks,” but if you’re in climate, this is the big one. Climate Week is the largest event of its kind in the world, bringing together business leaders, scientists, policymakers, activists, and stakeholders for seven shambolic days of panels, plenaries, conferences, happy hours, and parties.
The most important thing to know about NY Climate Week is that it’s not just one big conference. Think of it more as a coral reef, providing the structure for 600+ independently organized events to swim and thrive. There are big fish, small ones, and dazzlingly weird ones, and never enough time to see them all.
At Climate Tech Cities and Streetlife Ventures, we support climate founders, funders, and the broader community - this is our guide to help you sift through the noise and choose your own adventure. While the NY Climate Week official website is a good starting point, there are literally hundreds of events that never get listed there. Our guide is focused on in-person events in New York that you can attend - we’re not listing anything online as you’ll be busy enough. There’s a lot going on in parallel, but we think you should make the most of being here, meeting people IRL, and enjoying the sights and sounds of New York.
There are 477 events and counting - we’ve categorized all of them across 24 themes for 2024 and picked our favorites. We also have a “Top 10” list of where we’ll be and what we like! Given the wide breadth and depth of the conversations to be had and friends to be made, we’ll have a rolling list leading up to the big week itself.
Looking for this in spreadsheet or calendar form? Become a paid subscriber for the price of a couple slices of pizza and get direct access to our Airtable and thematic deep dives. This is a labor of love and a resource for the community - your dollars help us put on happy hours, topical panel sessions, climate site visits, and more for our 15,000+ network across the world. We appreciate your support!
While you’re in our beautiful city, we would be remiss not to share the amazing strides New York City is making to be at the forefront of Climate Industrialism. Bolstered by ambitious climate policies, the average New Yorker emits one-third less carbon than the typical US household. The nation-leading Green New Deal, Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, Clean Building Law and more provide $15B+ of investment and a legislative framework to enable the public and private sectors to work together to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Furthermore, over $3.5B has been invested in nearly 160 climate tech startups in NYC and the city already boasts 130,000+ jobs across the green economy. As you navigate this rich and dynamic ecosystem, check out the NY Guide for Climate Tech Founders for a plethora of resources!
And last but not least, this year we are thrilled to showcase the artistic talents of one of our favorite New Yorkers, Nicole Kelner, throughout our guide below! Nicole is the founder of Arts and Climate Change, an organization that uses art as a tool for climate communication. She creates educational content for all ages and just published a coloring book about clean energy called Electrify Everything. Her clients include the US Department of Energy, Harvard, The Guardian, and Sunrun, and you can follow her work on Instagram, Substack, and more. Nicole uses watercolors to help visualize the world we want to live in, and has been kind enough to create a piece highlighting the New York climate ecosystem for all of you joining us for the special week!
We hope these streets will make you feel brand new and the big lights will inspire you! We look forward to seeing you! 🍎
Cheers,
Alec Turnbull and Sonam Velani

About Climate Week
The Climate Group started Climate Week in 2009 to coincide with the UN General Assembly, when world leaders unite to shut down traffic in midtown Manhattan. It has always overlapped with UNGA as a clear opportunity to make climate front-and-center of the international agenda. In the years since, NY Climate Week has grown into a distributed conference and hub for everyone working in climate.
Don’t feel like you need to go to everything or skip out on your day job (unless going to these events is your day job). Decide the right balance of networking, learning, and getting out and about.

The Summit is a high-level event, bringing world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future. Effective global cooperation is increasingly critical to our survival but difficult to achieve in an atmosphere of mistrust, using outdated structures that no longer reflect today’s political and economic realities. This once-in-a-generation opportunity serves as a moment to mend eroded trust and demonstrate that international cooperation can effectively achieve agreed goals and tackle emerging threats and opportunities.

Power to the prosumer: Decentralising energy grids: Wed, Sept. 25 (Morning)
America is expected to double its solar-energy capacity over the next five years, to 438 gigawatts annually. That is enough to power 300m homes for a year. Much of this expansion will come from “prosumers”, or energy consumers who also produce energy, such as homes and businesses who install solar panels on their roofs. Some will receive support from America’s Inflation Reduction Act which promises $400bn in subsidies and tax rebates to lower the cost of clean energy.
