🛠️ Yard Labs Urban Testbeds at the Brooklyn Navy Yard
The next Yard Labs app cycle is almost here! The Brooklyn Navy Yard testbed of mobility and building assets are ready for the next round of climate tech pilots. Applications are open October 2-13 for fine-tuning your innovations and collecting valuable data for successful market launch. Join the unique ecosystem and pilot in BNY’s city-within-a-city! 🌳 Stewardship Volunteering at Tompkins Square Park
When: Mon, Sep 25th from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM
Where: LES Ecology Center Garden, 213 East 7th Street, New York, NY
The Lower East Side Ecology Center is hosting open hours for Stewardship volunteers to maintain and care for Tompkins Square Park. Please come prepared to work outside for the duration of your volunteer period. Masks are optional for outdoor events and COVID protocols will be followed. The event is organized by the Lower East Side Ecology Center, a nonprofit organization focused on urban sustainability and environmental stewardship.
🧵 Sustainable Fashion Community Meeting

Join the NYC FTC Fam for an evening of sharing, snacking, and connecting with like-minded individuals. This month we will be tackling the connection between what we wear and how we feel. Lead by NYC FTC Fellows, we'll start with a short presentation on the negative effects from the fashion industry on our physical and mental health, move on to sharing upcoming opportunities and events, and follow up with connecting to members, neighbors, advocates, and students of sustainability. Members attend for free. Non-members $10. Students reach out for free tickets.

The venture capital firm SOSV is hosting a free, global, and virtual event, the SOSV Climate Tech Summit, on Sep. 26-27. The summit will bring together top investors, founders, and scientists to discuss climate tech as an emerging category for startups and venture investing. Our goal is to deepen venture, academic, corporate, and media understanding of the accomplishments and potential of startups in climate tech.

This event features Jeff Goodell, author of the bestseller The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet, and Joseph Wilkens, PhD, an atmospheric scientist at Howard University who studies the health effects of wildfire smoke. 🧵 FABSCRAP BKLYN Volunteer: Friday September 29th, AM session

Join us this month as we celebrate FABSCRAP's 7th Anniversary! Volunteers will sort through fabric samples and swatches, separating fabric from paper headers and folding usable fabric for reuse. Donations are appreciated to keep us sustainable as the only option for the fashion industry to recycle and redistribute unused material. Dress comfortably and bring your own bag for any material you shop. Masks are required and safety measures are in place at our Brooklyn Army Terminal location.
🏖️ Oceanic Global NYC Hub Cleanup: Rockaway Beach

Join the Ocean Global NYC Hub for a Beach Cleanup at Rockaway Beach in Queens. This free event is an opportunity to meet the local NYC Hub community and help preserve our beautiful beaches and blue planet. Volunteers will be provided with clean-up supplies and water, and are encouraged to wear waterproof clothing. Join a Regional Hub Volunteer Chapter to support grassroots action in your community and help Corona and Oceanic Global achieve their goal of cleaning up 100 beaches and removing 1 million pounds of plastic.
👕 Sustainable Fashion: Clothing Swap & Panel Discussion

Bring clothes, shoes, handbags, and other accessories for a clothing swap. Check-in at the welcome desk and receive a swap ticket for each item. Limit of 20 items per person. Leftover items are donated or recycled. Agenda includes panel discussion on integrating sustainability into your wardrobe.

🌱 Compost Carnival 2023
When: Sun, Oct 1st from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Where: Prospect Park, Park Circle/S. Lake Drive entrance (southern edge of the Park), Brooklyn, NY
Join compost professionals and sustainability advocates for a Compost Carnival at Prospect Park with live performances and entertainment + pop-up food scrap drop-off. Free event but donations are appreciated. Confirmed speakers include Council Members Shahana Hanif, Sandy Nurse, and Lincoln Restler. With performances by Hila the Earth, The Living Earth Band and juggling. Tabling organizations include Red Hook Compost, GrowNYC, GreenThumb, The Clean Bushwick Initiative, Big Reuse, NYBG Green Up, Brooklyn and Manhattan SWABs, and more.
