NY Climate Tech: Nov 29 to Dec 5
Six in-person events, last-call for a $300k fellowship, and jobs, jobs, jobs
Hope you all had a great holiday weekend!
I skipped out of town and took a much needed vacation to Paris, where I got to see all the new bike lanes, museums dedicated to infrastructure and public health, and yes, lots of art. Best food? The bread & pastries at Du Pain et Des Idées, baked with organic, stone-milled flour from local farms.
We’re back at it this week with fully in-person events from Wednesday through Saturday. There are two networking happy hours, a panel from the architecture journal Log on their carbon issue, a staged reading on climate futures, an eco workshop, and a holiday market with sustainable gifts.
Tomorrow is the deadline to apply to the Activate fellowship – $300k for climate founders working on deep tech, for zero equity.
A number of companies are actively hiring — check out their jobs below! As ever, if you’re interested in being listed, just reply and I’ll include your posting in the next week.

Climate breakdown demands new ways of building, designing, and living together, yet architecture continues to work within the logic of carbon modernity. Confronting Carbon Form is an event series curated and moderated by Stanley Cho, Elisa Iturbe, and Alican Taylan that builds on the themes of Log 47: Overcoming Carbon Form. The series brings together architects, historians, theorists, and scholars to confront the spatial expression of our fossil fuel paradigm – carbon form – in order to find a new way forward.
Join architects Francesco Marullo, Louise Mozingo, and Brittany Utting for a conversation on the building typologies of carbon form – from the factory to the hospital and the corporate headquarters.
🎭 Austrian Stage presents “Waste Land”
When: Thursday, Dec. 2 from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Where: Austrian Cultural Forum at 11 East 52nd Street

Written by Magdalena Schrefel and directed by Guy Ben-Aharon, WASTE LAND paints the comedic picture of a world where the consequences of climate change and environmental pollution have already become reality. The play tells the story of Jesolo and Adrian, the last humans, trying to survive on an artificial island, where all the waste from the Maldives is dumped. Soon, the water will have devoured the last islands, and only the highest elevations – the waste mountains – will stand out. When everything else is submerged, plastic waste will still survive the change.
🍻 First Friday Climate Meetup
When: Friday, December 3rd from 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Where: Blue and Gold Tavern at 79 E. 7th St.
RSVP: Free here
First Friday climate meetups are hosted by James McWalter, host of the Carbotnic podcast.

Where: Local Roots Market & Café at 398 Court Street, Brooklyn

How can we use human-informed stories to better understand issues around food sovereignty and the climate crisis? How can we take a multi-disciplinary approach to healing our Earth? Join Local Roots, Sustain Frame, Sustainable Sabs and special guest Amber Tamm as we lead you through The Eco Salon.
Participants from varying disciplines will select a working group which will be given an assignment. Discussions will be led by the group leader with a goal to come up with tangible actionable steps towards fixing the issue assigned to the group.
