NY Climate Tech: May 2nd - May 8th
Circular City Week, decarbonizing NY Real Estate, and a visit to a microfactory on Governor's Island, and much more
Hi all,
It’s Circular City Week, and there’s truly an incredible amount going on. Tonight you can learn about food waste in NYC at an event hosted by DonateNYC and the Ellen Macarthur foundation.
Tomorrow, head to Hudson Yards for the launch of electric.nyc and a full-day session on decarbonizing New York with a focus on real estate, learn about reuse at the in SoHo, or sign up for an introduction to hydroponics at Brooklyn Grange.
Go Danish on Wednesday, with whole series of sponsored events, from a full-morning event on Circular Innovation featuring a LEGO keynote, to a discussion of NY’s Local Law 97 on building emissions, to a workshop for architects on Danish circular business models. In the evening, head over to Margalit Startup City in SoHo for a session on the roles of startups and VCs in the circular transformation, or swing by Three’s Brewing (for those who know, they have a new CEO) for a B Corp meetup. If you’re looking for something more intimate, sign up for the first Climate Collective dinner at Bocca Cucina in Chelsea.
On Thursday you can continue the theme with an event on Danish manufacturing and a visit to their design showroom (also open Friday). If you’re interested in Web3, learn about circular design on the blockchain, and if you’re more academically minded, head uptown for a discussion at Columbia on climate and history.
Friday’s light on events (at least that I found), but Saturday’s busy again, with a event on the circular furniture economy in the LES, a visit to a solar-powered micro-factory on Governor’s Island, and an exhibition of media art at Tisch on “Biohydrology.”
There’s loads more coming up in May, including Michelle Li’s Women in Climate Dinner next week and the April NY Climate Tech meetup, which we’re hosting in collaboration with Diamond List for their 2022 launch.
We have two featured prizes / fellowships this week: the Urban Future Prize (due June 6th) and the Women in Aquaculture Scholarship (due July 1st).
As always, if you want anything included in this newsletter, just reply and I’ll add it in.

🎓 A Discussion on Building a Climate and History Network
When: Thu, May 5 from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM EDT
Where: Fayeweather Hall, Room 513, 1180 Amsterdam Avenue
Historians and climate scientists are increasingly collaborating with each other. These interactions are helping us to better understand our past climate at local or regional scales over seasonal to annual timescales. While we know much about how the climate has changed over the course of human history at a global or hemispheric level, the complicated dynamics at regional and sub-regional levels mean there is much still to learn and historical evidence can help by anchoring climate events in time. Conversely, we may be able to better understand history through our knowledge of the climate by bringing paleoclimatology into historical research, especially before the twentieth century.
