NY Climate Tech: March 8 - March 15
Networking, historical climate reconstruction, biomimicry workshops, and climate resilience at the MTA
Hi all,
Our meetup is tonight. We’re set for the biggest turn out yet (50+ RSVPs), so hopefully the new venue will work out. If you’d like to sponsor and host our next event, let me know! Space has been an ongoing concern, and I’d love to have somewhere we can call our own.
If you can’t make tonight, Young Professionals in Energy and Women’s Energy Network are hosting a Cleantech Finance event tomorrow with a great speaker lineup and networking after. For something more academic, head uptown on Wednesday to learn about historical climate reconstruction in Africa or to Brooklyn for a full-weekend introduction to biomimicry. Finally, start next week right with a seminar on getting started with low-waste living. Online, SUNY and NYU have two interesting seminars tomorrow: the first on climate change and migration, the second on AI & Climate.
In jobs this week: a part-time role as Climate & Health lead at the non-profit Climate Advocacy Lab, Climate Graphics editor at the Times, VP of Sustainable Product Innovation at Blackrock, and most importantly, VP of Climate Resilience Planning at the MTA. Please apply and save our subways!

When: Wed, March 9 at 4:00 PM ET
Where: Fayerweather Hall, Room 513,1180 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY
RSVP: Free here
Historical climatology can dramatically extend the climate record in many parts of the world. That has definitely been the case for Africa, where the instrumental record of many countries barely goes back to the early twentieth century. This talk will focus on five aspects of the historical climatology of Africa: information sources, quantification of non-instrumental data, development of a two-century semi-quantitative data set for the whole continent, and two unusual periods with the nineteenth century. One is pan-African drought early in that century and the other is the 1878 flood events linked to El Niño. These will be compared to modern climate anomalies. Also to be discussed is how an understanding of those episodes helped to shape our modern understanding of African climate.
🌱 YPE NYC & WEN Host: Cleantech Finance 2022 Outlook & Networking Event
