NY Climate Tech: June Roundup
June events, our next two meetups (with special guests!), and the UN's World Oceans Week
Hi all,
We’re coming in a little late this week, but I think there’s more than enough in this newsletter to make up for it! To start with, we have a preview of 19 events happening this month. Highlights include climate education workshop at Teachers College, three competing happy hours on Wednesday, June 15th, and of course, our next two meetups!
NY Climate Tech will be hosting our first subject-specific meetup on Wednesday, June 16th. We’re covering a one of the most difficult challenges for the climate: how companies and governments can work together to deploy climate solutions. We have an amazing set of speakers confirmed from NY city government, NYSERDA, and Cornell. We’re also hosting our standard monthly meetup on Thursday, June 23rd. We’re already seeing success stories: Legends Solar founder Lassor Feasley met a key investor and advisor at one of the meetups. So RSVP and swing on by!
Some of this week’s events have already happened, from the FT’s Strategies for Transitioning to Net Zero summit to the Clean Energy for Homes conference in Saratoga, but check out their websites to find out about what’s coming next. If you’re in Jersey City, we finally have something for you! SJC Green Drinks is hosting an event on urban agriculture at Latham House tonight.
On Friday, head to Brooklyn for a lightly academic “Olio” on the more than human world and talk through a diverse set of readings from indigenous writers. This Sunday, celebrate World Environmental Day and the start of World Oceans Week with talks, networking, and films at the Selina Chelsea. If you’re interested in continuing with a visit to the UN on World Oceans day on Wednesday the 8th, be sure to RSVP today as they close in-person registrations at midnight tonight.
Next week, Sonam Velani will be joining the newsletter to add more content, from hot takes on local climate news to profiles of people in the community and more on climate, policy, and the city.

When: Wed, June 1st from 12 PM - PM
Where: Convene, 75 Rockefeller Plaza, New York
The pressure for corporations to deliver on their climate commitments has never been as strong as it is today. With mandatory climate-related disclosures set to come into force in the US, corporate progress on climate action will be even more scrutinized. Even those that have made great strides with reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions face the often bigger challenge of influencing their scope 3 emissions along their value chain.
At this one-day in-person event hosted by the Financial Times and Oliver Wyman, join business leaders in New York, drawn from across industries, to develop principles for delivering a successful climate transition. The intersection between transition planning and leadership, business operating models, customers and finance will all be examined separately.

The firm’s projects span various typologies and methodologies, from climate-action initiatives to cultural, educational, sports, health, industrial, religious, and residential facilities. In its own words, the practice aims to cultivate “a contextually and socially responsible…architectural and planning response” to the twin crises of climate change and migration in Bangladesh.
