Coastal cities have a collective problem, with the reality and impacts of climate change becoming harder and harder to ignore. Boston is no exception. Join us for a screening of Inundation District, a documentary exploring the implications of the city’s decision to ignore the threats posed by climate change and spend billions of dollars on building a new waterfront district — on landfill, at sea level. We’ll hear from film director + Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Abel on his experience and from local organizations on their work as it relates to New York City’s shore.

The Sustainable Fashion Community Center welcomes back the public to bless our new at at The People's Church at 163 E. 111th St. This historic church, build in 1885 has been a gathering space for the East Harlem community and is an important part of the neighborhood’s political history. In the 60s and 70s the church was used by the Puerto Rican activist group the Young Lords as they worked to build community infrastructure and draw attention to the lack of city government support in low income neighborhoods with large immigrant populations. The Young Lords were inspired by the strategies of the Black Panthers and took over the church to offer meals, medical services, and day care for children to their neighbors. The People’s Church has remained politically active and committed to serving the community, and we’re grateful they’ve taken us in on short notice. We can’t wait to invite you to this historic neighborhood space and to get back to swapping and exchanging new ideas with our neighbors soon!
