NY Climate Tech: Dec 13 - Dec 20
Distributed Holiday Parties, Waterfront Workshops, and a Renewable Job Fair
If you don’t have plans yet tonight, swing by DER Taskforce’s holiday party and talk energy over eggnog. True to form, it’s a distributed party, so you can show up in Williamsburg, Oakland, and online.
Tuesday is the busy day this week. Start it off at an online job fair hosted by climate school Terra.do, hop out to listen in on a talk about carbon negative hydrogen, and then round out your evening with an artist’s talk on climate hope in Brooklyn.
On Thursday, Impact Hub NY and the Mayor’s Office are hosting a workshop on coastal resiliency over dinner and drinks. They have a very thorough and interactive event planned, and it definitely looks worth checking out if you have the time.

🏔 Climate Chat with Sari Carel
When: Tuesday, December 14 from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM ET
Where: Five Myles at 558 Saint Johns Place, Brooklyn
RSVP: Free here
As part of Sari Carel's Land and Environment residency with KODA and in partnership with 350Brooklyn we offer this workshop on activism as hope.
How can we turn the grief, anger and fear surrounding the climate crisis into sources of action and joy in our communities? This event will help us connect with our climate-concerned neighbors and develop plans for making a difference. We’ll each identify an aspect of the climate crisis that matters to us, explore resources dealing with that concern, and brainstorm a game plan for action.
Bring your curiosity, openness, and some hope. You don’t need any prior knowledge of climate science or the climate movement, just a desire to make a meaningful difference in your community.
This event is in person and requires proof of vaccination and masks. Tickets are free, but seats are limited and registration required.
🌊 Climate Action on NYC's Waterfronts
When: Thursday, Dec 16 from 5:30pm - 8:00pm ET
Where: LMHQ at 150 Broadway, #20th floor
RSVP: Free here
Impact Hub New York Metropolitan Area is proud to be partnering with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Climate Resiliency, Ideanco, and LMHQ to host “Climate Action on NYC’s Waterfronts.” Join us to learn and co-create the future of a climate-resilient New York.
To start the event, we will be hearing from stakeholders that will unpack the most significant regional challenges posed by Climate Change - both current and predicted - over dinner and drinks.
Next we’ll break out into groups to go through a process to exchange feedback on the city’s plans before co-creating unique solutions for our region and communities à la a “world café” style exchange. We’ll be working to collectively answer:
What are our biggest climate change concerns, and what climate impacts identified by the Mayor’s Office resonate most?
What inspires us about the City’s 10-year vision for the waterfront? What gaps do we see?
What are innovative ways these perceived gaps can be filled, and what are other solutions can we brainstorm that the city should consider?
How can government and social entrepreneurs support each other to help New Yorkers adapt to climate change?
