The First NY Climate Tech Newsletter
Welcome to NY Climate Tech
Hello and welcome to the first NY Climate Tech email!
You’re getting this email because you came to the MCJ / NY Climate Tech meetup last week. I’ve been running the MCJ Meetup in NYC for about six months now, and I’d love to expand the community. There’s so much going on in NYC and NY State, I thought it’d be useful to have an email list of events, people, and opportunities.
My goal is to have a useful weekly email roundup of what’s going on in NY Climate Tech. I haven’t found a good, single place to check yet, so I figured I may as well get it started. If you know of any events or listings, please send them my way and I’ll include them!
This is my first stab at the newsletter, so I’d love feedback — please let me know what works, what doesn’t, and what you’d like to see more of.
Events This Week
Getting to Zero Forum
When: Wednesday, October 27th - Friday, October 29th
Where: NY Marriott Marquis Times Square & Online
The Getting to Zero Forum is the premier event dedicated to zero energy and zero carbon buildings. With a growing number of climate emergencies across the United States and around the world, there is no more important time than now for the Getting to Zero Forum. It brings together the world’s leading experts to share best practice approaches to reducing energy demand and decarbonization related to policy, program and projects. It is the only event with a broad cross-section of stakeholders focused on ambitious building efficiency goals and is an ideal venue for organizing both the policy and building communities to achieve zero carbon ambitions.
It’s a bit pricey at $1500 for a three-day pass, but looks good for those of you who can expense it. Virtual tickets are cheaper but not cheap, and there’s an a la carte option for workshops. Featured speakers include Jennifer Granholm, Secretary of the DOE, Doreen Harris, President and CEO of NYSERDA, and many more.

This battery tech conference is put on in collaboration with the Souther Tier Clean Energy Incubator. Rates are cheaper, at $250 for a general day pass and $150 if you’re remote. Conference speakers lean academic, with professors and doctoral candidates from multiple upstate universities.
Amazonia: A Climate Crisis Popup Event
When: Saturday, October 30th from 6pm to 9pm and Sunday 11am to 7pm
Where: Peninsula Art Space
Grey Area Collective’s first pop-up exhibit “Amazonia,” inspired by the shopping experience of an Amazon Go store, will exhibit fictional products that New Yorkers would need to survive in a dystopian climate-ravaged future, where basic needs such as water, food, power, and communication systems are on the verge of collapse.
If you’re looking for a more creative take on the climate crisis, Grey Area Collective is running a Red Hook show exploring climate futures. The opening party is Saturday.
